Segment No. 131 -- Mt. 21:20-22; Mk. 11:19-26

Title:  The Barren Fig Tree Found to Have Withered

Mk. 11:19  And when evening had come, He went out of the city.
Mk. 11:20  Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw they fig tree dried up from the roots.

Mt. 21:20  Now when the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither away so soon?”
Mk. 11:21   And Peter, remembering, said to Him, “Rabbi, Look!  The fig tree which You cursed has withered away!”

Mk. 11:22  So Yeshua answered and said to him, “Have faith in God.”

Mt. 21:21  So Yeshua answered and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea, it will be done.’”

Mk. 11:23  “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will com to pass, he will have whatever he says.”

Mt. 21:22  “And all things, whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive.”
Mk. 11:24  “Therefore I say to you, whatever you ask, when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”

Mk. 11:25  “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in Heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.”
Mk. 11:26  “But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in Heaven forgive your trespasses.”

Yeshua uses this opportunity to teach His disciples a lesson concerning prayer and forgiveness.  That lesson is that prayer is going to be answered on two conditions.  First, they must have faith in God that He will answer their prayers.  Secondly, they have to be willing to forgive their brethren.
