Segment No. 183 -- Lk. 24:44-49; Acts 1:3-8

Title:  Yeshua Appears to the Disciples With Another Commission

Lk. 24:44  Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.”
Lk. 24:45  And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.
Lk. 24:46  Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Messiah to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day.
Lk. 24:47  “And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning in Jerusalem.”
Lk. 24:48   “And you are witnesses of these things.”
Lk. 24:49  “Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”

When Yeshua told His disciples to "tarry" in Jerusalem He did not mean for them to just simply wait around until something happened.  The giving of the Holy Spirit was the spiritual fulfillment of the Day of Shavuoth (Pentecost), of which the giving of the Law on Mt. Sinai was the O.T. type.

Acts 1:3 To whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

Acts 1:4  And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me.”
Acts 1:5  “For John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
Acts 1:6  Therefore, when they come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?”
Acts1:7  And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.”

Acts 1:8  “But you shall receive power when the Holy Power has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”.
