Jn. 18:12 Then the detachment of troops and the captain and the officers of the Jews arrested Yeshua and bound Him.
Jn. 18:13 And they led Him away to Annas, for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was the High Priest that year.
Violation No. 4: No trials were to be conducted before the morning sacrifice.
Jn. 18:14 Now it was Caiaphas who gave counsel to the Jews that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.
Jn. 18:19 The High Priest then asked Yeshua about His disciples and His doctrine.
Jn. 18:20 Yeshua answered him, “I spoke openly to the world. I always taught in the synagogues and in the Temple, where the Jews always meet, and in secret I have said nothing.”
Jn. 18:21 “Why do you ask Me? Ask those whom have heard Me what I said to them. Indeed they know what I said.”
Violation No. 5: Sanhedrin trials were to be conducted openly.
In this one statement Yeshua reminds Annas of their own Mishnaic law that this trial is being conducted in secret in counter distinction to Yeshua’s teaching which was done publicly and openly in synagogues, in the Temple, in front of Jewish audiences.
Violation No. 6: An accused testimony may not be used against him.
Annas questioned Yeshua about the whereabouts of His disciples and also His teachings. The purpose of this questioning was to come up with a religious charge against Yeshua. Yeshua is reminding Annas to obey his own laws here.
Jn. 18:22 And when He had said these things, one of the officers who stood by struck Yeshua with the palm of his hand, saying, “Do You answer the High Priest like that?”
Jn. 18:23 Yeshua answered him, “If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil; but if well, why do you strike Me?”
