Mt. 27:3 Then Judas, His betrayer, seeing that He had been condemned, was remorseful and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders.
Mt. 27:4 Saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” And they said, “What is that to us? You see to it.”
Mt. 27:5 Then he threw the pieces of silver in the Temple and departed, and went and hanged himself.
M. 27:6 But the chief priests took the silver pieces and said, “It is lawful to put them into the treasury, because they are the price of blood.”
Once again, the chief priests seem to pick out some laws to obey that may be of some benefit to them, but completely disobey other laws that might hinder their plans to condemn Yeshua and put Him to death.
Mt. 27:7 And they took counsel and bought with them the potter’s field to bury strangers in.
Mt. 27:8 Therefore that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day.
Mt. 27:9 Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying, “”And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the value of Him who was priced, whom they of the children of Israel priced.”
Mt. 27:10 “And gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord directed me.”

Acts 1:18 (Now his man purchased a field with the wages if iniquity, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his entrails gushed out.)
Acts 1:19 And it became known to all those dwelling in Jerusalem, so that field is called in their own language, Akel Dama, that is, Field of Blood.
According to Dr. Arnold Fruchtenbaum this is probably what happened here to explain this apparent contradiction. The first night of Passover is over with, and they are about to come into the first day of Passover when the morning Passover sacrifice would be offered of which the priesthood would partake. However, according to Jewish Law, if there is a dead body in Jerusalem, then the city was considered defiled and the morning sacrifice could not be offered. The Law demanded that the body was to be taken out and cast into the Valley of Hinnom, a place of burning. In fact, the Valley of Hinnom is Hebrew for Gehinnom from which we get the word Gehenna. Then the city is reckoned cleansed and the Passover can be partaken of , and then later they can return and bury the body.
It appears that Judas hanged himself while he was still inside the city walls. And that meant that the city was now defiled for Passover. But since the law says that if the body is thrown in the Valley of Hinnom, the city is cleansed for the morning sacrifice, which goes by the name of haggigah. And with that fall what happened to his body is described in Acts 1:18. The body is thrown down and splits open. Later, people will return for he burial.
