Mt. 27:61 And Mary Magdalene was there, and the other Mary, sitting opposite the tomb.
Mk. 15:47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary the Mother of Joses observed where He was laid.
Lk. 23:55 And the women who had come with Him from Galilee followed after, and they observed the tomb and how His body was laid.
Lk. 23:56 Then they returned and prepared the spices and fragrant oils. And they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment.
Mt. 27:62 On the next day, which followed the Day of Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together to Pilate.
Mt. 27:63 Saying, “Sir, we remember, while He was still alive, how that deceiver said, ‘ After three days I will rise.’”
There has been a lot of conjecture about Yeshua being “three days and three nights in the grave,” simply because Gentiles do not know how days and nights are reckoned by the Jewish people. The Jewish day actually starts when the first star appears in the evening around 6:00 P.M. It then ends the following evening at the same time. Anything that occurs during that twenty-four hour period is counted as happening during that “day.” Yeshua was put into the grave around 4:00 P.M. on Friday, so Thursday night and Friday day counted as the first day. The same would then apply for Friday night and Saturday day, which would be the second day. Then He rose from the grave sometime after 6:00 P.M. on Saturday, so Saturday night and Sunday day would count as the third day.
Mt. 27:64 “Therefore command that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest His disciples come by night and steal Him away, and say to people, ‘He has risen from the dead.’ So the last deception will be worse that the first.”
Mt. 27:65 Pilate said to them, “You have a guard; go your way, make it as secure as you know how.”
Mt. 27:66 So they went and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone and setting the guard.
