Lk 24:9 Then they returned from the tomb and told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest,
Jn. 20:2 Then she ran and came to Simon Peter, and the other disciple, whom Yeshua loved, and said to them, “They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid Him.”
Lk. 24:10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them, who told these things to the apostles.
Lk. 24:12a But Peter arose and ran to the tomb;
Jn. 20:3 Peter therefore arose went out, and the other disciple, and were going to the tomb
Jn. 20:4 So they ran together, and the other disciple outran Peter and came to the tomb first.
Lk. 24:12b And stooping down, he saw the linen clothes lying by themselves.
Jn. 20:5 And he, stooping down and looking in, saw the line cloths lying there, yet he did not go in.
If this other disciple was a priest as thought, the reason that he hesitated in going into a tomb was for the fear of ritual defilement for entering a tomb.
Jn. 20:6 Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; and he saw the linen clothes lying there.
Jn. 20:7 And the handkerchief that had been around His head, not lying with the linen clothes, but folded together in a place by itself.
Jn. 20:8 Then the other disciple, who came to the tomb first, went in also; and he saw and believed.
Jn. 20:9 For as yet they did not know the Scripture that He must rise again from the dead.
Lk. 24:12c And he departed, marveling to himself at what had happened.
Jn. 20:10 Then the disciples went away again to their own homes.
There are some differences between Luke’s and John’s accounts that cannot be reconciled.
But these differences do not have a major significance on the story and should not be the cause of any major consternation for believers. We do need to remember that these accounts are written by human beings whose memories of the events may be slightly different.
